Repton: The Lost Realms by Paras Sidapara and Tom Walker

Introduction

Revealed at Retro Fusion 08 and demonstrated a year later at Byte Back, Repton: The Lost Realms is a long-lost BBC Micro sequel to Repton 3. After the launch of Repton Infinity, it was re-developed into Cyroid-X, but never released. After discovering some unfixable bugs due to a lack of source code, Tom Walker has reimplemented the core engine, creating arguably the best Repton engine for the BBC Micro. An Electron port including a Plus 3 enhanced version is also in development. Four levelsets of six screens have been completed by a host of talented Repton famous faces - contributors include the author of Repton 3, Matthew Atkinson, Superior Software head honcho Richard Hanson, PC Repton level designers, Michael S and Jonathan P as well as other RS team members. In addition, Retro Software's graphical supremo Dave Jeffery has given the new game a complete, but traditional, graphical overhaul. The game was finally completed and launched with kind permission of Superior Interactive on November 6th/7th at the huge R3PLAY gaming show in Blackpool. See the forum below for the latest information.

Ordering Repton: The Lost Realms

Repton: The Lost Realms is a white label Retro Software title.

Formats, price and ordering details are available on the Pricing Structure page.

Note: the emulator CD-ROMs are not yet available but, until they are, anyone ordering one of the other physical releases can request an emulator image to be emailed to them, when placing their order

New Features

  • Bigger screens - 30x28 characters, instead of 28x24 in Repton 3
  • Absorbalene Pills (Absorbency Capsules)
  • Anti-clockwise Spirits
  • Balloons
  • Ice Pills (Monster Freeze Capsules)
  • Multiple Time-Bombs
  • Potentially twice as many monsters and transporters
  • Music volume control

There are six levels in a set instead of eight as there was in Repton 3. Some of the most experienced Repton designers from other official BBC Micro and PC releases of Repton have created all-new levels for this release. Continuing the trend established by Repton 3, the Walls, Barriers, Earth, Monsters, Eggs and Crowns are varied between level sets.
