Our latest release was a sneaky surprise that we unveiled for show attendees at the 17th Wakefield Acorn and RISC OS Show this past Saturday, 28th April 2012.

Our resident BeebSID coding guru and general all-round master of innovative software, Pitfall Jones has been busily working away in the background over recent months on a MODE 2 arcade game, in the style of the original Acornsoft range.

The game itself is a simple, but highly addictive title inspired by CRTC's beebnyan demo, a BBC Micro implementation of the Nyan Cat internet meme. Uploaded in April 2011, the original Nyan Cat YouTube video merged a Japanese pop song with an animated cartoon cat that has the body of a Pop-Tart, flying through space and leaving a rainbow trail behind it. To date, it has received over 70 million views in total.

The game is available to download as a freeware Acorn DFS .ssd disc image and, if you have a BeebSID hardware add-on connected, will run with an enhanced SID-based soundtrack.
