Would there be any point in extending the 'Development Tools' index page, to include existing software (e.g. Sprite Designers, Game Creators etc) that were released on 8-bit Acorn platforms back in the 80s?

I'm thinking that we could add a section at the bottom of the page that contained Tape/Disc Images plus Documentation for each program (who knows - despite the emergence of fancy apps like Swift and BeebAsm - perhaps there are folks out there who would insist on carrying out 100% of the development on a real machine?).

I'd say that's definitely a good idea. The only problem I can see is that there were so many utilities in Beebug, Micro User etc.

Yeah, I think that's potentially a large number of utilities - unless you want to start some threads asking ppl to discuss which is the "best" disassembler ROM, "best" BASIC tools ROM etc. Even then, I doubt there's a definitive answer.

Perhaps it would be best to include a link off the top of the development tools page to an original 8-bit utilities page, which can summarise all of them without encroaching on the PC utilities space (perhaps group them into categories).

If you want to gather a list of potential utils together in this thread, I'll knock up a starter page.

I'll start the list with BeebugSoft's Toolkit Plus, which I've already pointed Francis at, for BASIC utilities, including a great compression command.

Sam.

That sounds good. Are the Beebug utils free for use in "user" programs? Not even sure if the company is still going.

Toolkit Plus is available for download as a ROM image. It was an additional ROM toolkit to aid BASIC programming. I've added the links and more information on to the new Classic Development Tools page.

If anyone has any other recommendations, just add them to the same page and use the first one as a template entry.

Sam.
