Hey

A friend sent me this link, to Source Code of Several Atari 7800 Games Released.

Might make for some interesting reading. There's also a good roundup of Atari 7800 games here

Thanks for the pointer Dave. Download the 7800 PAL OS and look at MARIAOS.S. The code to synchronise with the video chip (SYNC:, etc.) is fascinating and incredibly hackish. The C* folks don't know what they're missing :D Emulator devs may be mildly interested in the CPU instruction tests underneath.

Great find, Dave! 8-)

I notice it includes a download for the MS PACMAN source. This was actually one of my suggestions in the New Ideas category (well, MS SNAPPER was!).

Would the source for the Atari version be of any use in terms of doing a BBC/Electron conversion? I think old Atari's used a customised version of the 6502, didn't they?

According to wikipedia, the 7800 has a custom 6502C

EDIT: Running at 1.79MHz

The game logic would possibly help (although i don't know how accurate it is at that level since it was probably written without access to the original code) but the 7800 has a hardware sprite system so actual display code'd be far less use.

Maybe MS PACMAN/MS SNAPPER could be Murray's next challenge, once JSM is done and dusted? ;)
