Hello

Anyone around when Kefrens did "Desert Dream" on the Amiga?

Somone's done a rather brilliant C64 version(!)

Part 1 http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=g9TT55hrz90
Part 2 http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=wcTMOkwkFt0

Very impressive!

I remember Desert Dream on the Amiga (and I'm sure I've still got it somewhere). That version is amazingly close to the original!

I was very impressed with the 3D stuff given that it is being run on a C64.

Kind regards,

Francis

Heh, I should've come into this thread before suggesting a BBC demo in the other thread - wouldn't have had to write what a demo is, doh :)

I'm hoping to write a BBC demo at some point in the future once my 6502 assembly skills are at a sufficient level to do so. I've written a few BBC demos in the past plus I've been involved with a few on the Amiga under various guises and groups.

The best BBC demo I probably done was inspired by Doctor Who. It started off with a picture of a TV (a drawing of my Ferguson TX) displaying static and then tuning into an animated TARDIS with the Doctor Who theme tune playing. Technically it wasn't really anything impressive, but it was fun to do! :D If my memory serves I also "borrowed" the theme music from one of the Doctor Who games.

These days I would be looking to do something more technically challenging and it will be interesting to see how far I can take the BBC's hardware.

Kind regards,

Francis

Wonder if the BBC is fast enough to do a twister?

Haven't found any C64 demo code to try and port yet :) [I need to find time to learn 6502 before writing anything myself]

It should be.

I'm no expert on the C64, but I think the BBC's processor is faster.

Kind regards,

Francis.

It is faster (2mhz vs 1mhz) but both those twisters use 'features' of the graphics chips - zxwister is entirely attribute based (you'd need a lot more power to do that on a purely bitmap machine like the beeb) and Twisting Sister (ab)uses some features of the VIC-II.

Not to say it's impossible, but you'd need a fair bit of CRTC trickery to compete.

A better comparison might be with the CPC - it and the beeb are very similar, and most demo tricks on one can be done on the other.
