This weekend we've had a mini gathering especially (ahem) to playtest the v1 release candidate of JSnake! Very impressive first game from our very own jbnbeeb! Can't wait for JDogfight! Pics below!

Hi Dave and co. Thankyou so much for playtesting JSnake at your hardware meet up! It is much appreciated and I'm chuffed to bits to see the picture of you playing it It is a simple game - but like Arcadian says, is my first. I received some valuable feedback from Samwise re joystick sensitivity. I did actually test on my own analogue joysticks which are the same as those in your screenshots. The issue being reported was that one has to push the stick to near-maximum value in a given direction. I'll experiment with reducing the values. The other observation was the sudden speed increase at 2000 points. Yup - it is a helluva jump in speed. I might make the jump at 2500 or 3000. I've been unable to come up with a neater way of speeding up the snake whilst retaining smooth animation. The snake is moving at double the previous speed - simply by plotting double the number of pixels per frame! Pitfall Jones gave me guidance on this which was much appreciated. I'll be in touch with Samwise v soon for advice on GPL /open source code etc. I'll tweak code slighty and put the ssd and sourcecode up here, along with a chunky update to the diary I started last year. Will one of you be doing a write up and screenshots for the main event of the meet up - the hardware hacking? I'd be keen to take a look. Thanks, jbnbeeb |
