Am I the only one who thinks Kian has too much time on his hands purely because of the awesome avatar graphic he's put together?!

Sam.

+1 Sam, but I think the avatar is just a teaser for his follow-up game!! Come on Kian, I need another fix, if only to get me away from MazezaM :D .

Not trying to burst your bubble or anything, JoolsH, but at level 18 and counting..
(I've a funny feelin' my bubble is about to be burst ).

I sense a MazezaM war coming on... 8-)

Sorry to disappoint you Martin, but I really just thought it was quite pretty.
So, it seems, does Sam :D

CMcDougall: glad you like it and thanks for giving the Electron version the once-over too :D
I hadn't noticed the missing !BOOT file - (during dev I re-compiled a good few times and can now type '*RUN MAZEZAM' blindfolded and with my arms tied behind my back quicker than I can Shift-Break :?
I have updated to v1.21 with !BOOT intact. :)
Hope you are now unstuck too.

Kian

Hmmm, don't believe you , but anyways, I'm still stuck on L.18....

In the absence of another game, I think it's time for the level designer [I'd certainly re-design level 18 - it's obviously flawed! ]

Assuming I/we all get past the basic levels, just how many levels are currently built in, Kian?

Delighted to see so much interest... [Phew, just as well I'm not into games! :o]

-Martin.

(Time to dig out that 'Ultimate Disassembler' ... :D )

Just re-downloaded this after my old computer died and I finished getting a new one set up. Since there's now an extra level (there are 39 levels in total) I thought I'd start from the beginning again so that I get to see it.

On replaying the levels, I stand by my earlier remark that Level 8 is a large step up in difficulty; it didn't hold me back very long this time, but I think that's only because I remembered some of the recurring methods and tricks from having already played most of the later levels. If you feel like moving things around, I'll add that Level 26 should appear much earlier, especially as it teaches a common trick used in several levels that currently come before it -- however, I wouldn't do a simple switch of these two levels as I don't think Level 8 should come that late. If it helps, the other ones I've found particularly tricky (of the first 30) are Levels 11, 13, 14, 16 and 20 -- there is a good difficulty curve, so the late-on levels in general are more difficult and those five are just the ones that are a sudden jump or feel harder than their numerical position. Mind you, a lot depends on the individual's reaction (and on luck!) so I wouldn't give my words too much credit if I were you.

Reached Level 35 (Inside Out) again. This one is just so evil :P

(And I may as well add that all the levels from 31 up are very difficult, so you certainly don't need to worry about changing the order of these!)

Level 18 would be hard... if the title weren't such a big hint.

Ok, go on, rub it in! Bad enough that you admit reaching L.35, but to use the word "again" is just downright merciless

...Not as merciless as the level itself ;)

However, I have now completed that and the new level "The Wumpus Room" -- which was also one of the very hardest levels so far -- so only three left to go, but #37 also looks like a real stonker!

I got drunk last night, so managed to get past level 9 and now on 12!, but now stumped...again

noticed some folks above got to level 18, so will have to get more drunk to get past 12, as i thought maybe impossible

Have put save states in STH thread ere: http://stardot.org.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=2996

Sorry for being away so long.....bit of a hectic weekend.

MichaelS: Glad you have a live machine again :D
I admire and appreciate your dedication in playing through again.(or is this just to wind Martin up ?) ;)
I'm glad you liked the Wumpus Room. :D
Of course, the next few are even harder.
WRT your thoughts about the level order, I think I agree with you about level 8. I have had a quick run through this evening and think that maybe it would be better placed after L16. I'm not 100% sure about L26. I am struggling to think of anywhere better to put it. Where did you have in mind?

If anyone else has any thoughts on this matter then please don't hesitate to let me know.

You have my utmost assurance that every single level is possible.
I wouldn't be that mean.
But if the drinking helps . . .

I haven't managed to get much done on the Level designer front and have another week of intense running around like a bug with a blue bottom at work coming up but, as soon as the world stops spinning I will get right back on it.

Kian

If you are moving the current L8 elsewhere, I'd suggest placing L26 as the new L8 to fill the gap. I'm not sure why you want to place L8 after L16, which is definitely quite a bit harder ;)

I want to see what happens when you complete the game, of course! :P Although I know I've still got three extremely hard puzzles to go before I get there....

Sorry, I meant to say as level 16 rather than after.

PAGE=&1400 worked on everything we tried Jeltron on, although the more common DFSs worked with &1100.

Level 37 down. Once I finally got past the upper half, the lower was disappointingly simple.

Now that I come to think of it, maybe you shouldn't change the level order around, now that people have begun to upload savestates, as these would become invalid? It's not a huge problem if one or two levels are out of position -- most puzzle games have a few like that, including all the classics such as Repton and Lemmings.

Solved Level 37 again in order to get a savestate for the *. topic. That was very interesting, because this time I found a way to reach the solution (to the upper half) by logic instead of just running around and trying to reach unfamiliar positions in the hope that one of them would lead to a solution.

Level 38 is down. That was even more interesting -- I had become convinced it was impossible, but it was only in trying to construct a proof of impossibility that I worked out what had to be the solution! (Not a wholly new experience; this has happened to me a few times with the very hardest puzzles in the Repton games.)

EDIT: Completed Level 39 and the game :) Excellent finishing level -- it looked completely impossible to even get started, though once I did find the right approach, it wasn't actually as hard as some of the ones before it.

EDIT 2: You may want to fix or remove Level 10. There's a (presumably unintended) solution that makes it utterly trivial. Also, now that I've replayed the early levels one more time, I don't agree with you as regards moving the current L8 as late as L16. It belongs later than its current position, but no later than L12.

Damn, MichaelS, you've done well! Still stuck on L.35 - it's a bitch! Hoping to have some time tomorrow to try and get past this f*%$er of a level  ! Could be asking for tips soon! Well done!

Looking forward to the finale, eventually.....
