I took my spare Beeb to Retrovision 2011, along with a copy of the latest build of Mixed Grill March...
I had the game on my mobile phone as a WAV file, and loaded it in by "tape"
- using my special "turboloader" (er, which just involved manually trimming the gaps between the blocks in Soundforge) it loaded in about one minute.
It seemed quite popular, with a lot of people having a go
The real Muscle March was also being played on a Wii at RV... I'm told someone looked at it and said "oh, someone's done a remake of that beeb game"
Here are the high scores I have recorded:
5160 - regregex
3190 - KIRK (or, as the "k" key was broken on the keyboard, "CIRC"
)
2340 - BANE (the mixed grill master himself!)
Sadly I don't have any more scores noted down, the high score table had a bit of an issue where after a while it wouldn't let people enter their names any more and they'd just go in as blank. This wasn't just a one off, it happened a few times, and I had to reload the game to fix it each time.
I'm not sure whether this is a bug or a hardware problem with my beeb - probably the former! I'll have to investigate this when I have some time.
Regregex was really good at the game, completing it on at least three occasions - for his top score he did very well indeed, he may have even completed it without losing a life, I don't remember.
I did just about manage to pip his score on the sunday though, with a score of 5220
I think the game is mostly there, but a few ideas for the game were discussed - having you being Markie-with-green-head chasing the mixed-grill man sounds like a good idea to me.
