Hey, all.

Kenton and Paul have just released the latest Retro Software title available for free download, Hyper Viper.

Kenton has also generously included the complete source code to the game, allowing any of you talented coders to have a play, and try to improve the formula, if you can (a tough challenge - this is an exceptionally fun game already!).

We've added a small note to the wiki page with a couple of suggestions on possible new features for the game, but if any one plays wants to shout up their own suggestions here, we'd be happy to add those to the list. Note tho, that getting them listed on the wiki is all we'll officially do. Kenton and Paul aren't intending to do any more work on the release at this point, so implementing any such ideas is left for anyone who wants to have a go at it! If anyone posts back any good implementations of improvements or ports the game to a new platform, they may be considered for being put into a future revision of the official codebase. But we're happy to have them hosted here as fan contributions, regardless.

Go download Hyper Viper - it's very addictive! But be prepared to have the Pugwash theme rolling around your head for a while ...

Sam.

Hi, again.

Less than a month on, and Hyper Viper 1.1 is available for download!

Tireless contributor Paul D has fixed a compatibility issue with the Electron Plus 1, which is fortunate as Pitfall Jones has also been tinkering with the open source codebase and contributed a patch to add joystick support. With the Plus 1 compatibility sorted out, this means both BBC Micro and Electron owners can make use of their joysticks.

We hope you'll all upgrade to the latest release and continue posting your high scores.

Thanks a lot, Paul and PJ, as well as, of course, Kenton for writing it in the first place!

Sam.
