Hello everyone

I've decided to write another game. Before anyone says "oh no, not another game that'll never be finished" - this one has a deadline of 2 1/2 weeks away (which, inevitably, will probably be missed - but hopefully not by much!).

In order to meet this deadline, the game's a bit 1983. It's a platformer called Hard Hat Harry, and it's here : http://retrosoftware.co.uk/wiki/index.php/Hard_Hat_Harry. See, there's screenshots and programmer graphics and everything!

Haha, excellent! Didn't see that coming! Sounds fun, and I like the back story :)

Looking forward to trying this one!

Hi there,

Do you know that there is already a game out there by the same title?

Kind regards,

Francis

Very nostalgic - I think this one needs a pastiche Program Power cover.

Haha yeah, very 80s sounding concept, like it a lot

Good luck Tom - there's a pint in it from me if you finish on time :D

"Interesting" prologue!! ;)

Will there be an Electron version?

(Actually, where the hell is Alan? I don't think he's been seen on the forums for months?).

Ah, to hell with them ... the Retro Software version was written first, don't you know? (1983 etc etc) ;)

Leccy version - maybe. Depends on what sort of speed it ends up running at - the Electron version may have to be slower (only 600khz in mode 2!).

Well, if it was going to be a truly authentic Electron circa 1983 port, it would need to be in Mode 5 with the high score table in Mode 6 with a blue background and hardly any sound. And you wouldn't spend longer than half an hour on porting it across. ;)

I've just tried it in Elkulator, it's _unbeliveably_ slow! So definitely a mode 5 job I think :)

Cool idea! Looks like this one is going to be a lot of fun - and pretty brutal as well going by those latest screen shots.

Can't wait to try it :D

Looks like I won't miss the deadline for once! The game is basically now finished (though I had to cut 4 levels and an enemy for memory + sanity reasons), and just needs some fine-tuning. If this were actually 1983 then I'd say it's done.

Nice one Tom! Crikey, it's difficult!

But after a few goes, I made it to Level 3:

I like how you can fall any distance - keeps it nice and fast and furious.

Right, back to try and improve on my pathetic first attempt!
