It was with some trepidation that I set off from base camp across the snowy wastelands.

It seemed like another epoch since I'd been on such a BBC expedition but the old methods, long unused, soon came back to me.
Armed with my pencil and notebook, I carefully mapped out the alien terrain as I moved from screen to screen.

Unable to jump and reach ledges denied to me, I eventually found a rope, and with a skill once mastered, I could navigate across to the icy ledges.

Imagine my horror as I came upon first, the skeletal remains of poor Lake, and later, at a second hastily abandoned camp, those of Gedney.

I could only tremble at the thought of what horrible calamity had befallen them,
what hideous creature of primal myth could have rendered them as only bone?

Later as the stark, nightmare spires of the east tower loomed above me, I perhaps in-advisedly ventured down deeper into the catacombs.

Luckily, earlier in the expedition I had come upon a lamp which proved itself most useful now to light my way.
Whereupon I came across a nightmarish abomination: a giant albino penguin - bent on doing me harm - with its hellish beak designed as if at its conception, to end my mission.

Thus, my journey into the stuff of nightmares progressed, filling my dreams ever since with such horrors as can barely be imagined. I can hardly bring myself to relate the tale to you now, lest I lose what remains of my sanity.

I caution any who may dare to follow in my path; you will be forevermore altered by the things that you witness herein....

Hi Dave,

I'll be more 'review' than story line but I love the take on the first one....

Here you go......

Great graphics, super smooth motion for all the 'obstacles' and hero character. All enemies are very good.

The game is quite short but getting through it will take some hours initially just because there is discovery at work here. Once you discover where things are and what is needed to be done then I believe you can whiz through the game fairly quickly though if you're careless, it can still be tough.

A trivial point.....when in the final screen, I noticed the icicles 'piled up' when dropping them down in a random pattern.

In my book, the game overall out of ten is an 8.5.....due to the quirk in the final screen and being shortish....

Still an excellent play and being (as far as I know) the first original game for the Beeb in 30 or so years, go out and get it while it is still in stock and hot off the shelves..

Great job Dave,

Ed......:-)

Thanks for the comments Ed :)

It was originally intended to be a lot bigger than it actually turned out; I found I ran out of memory very quickly. The original design (in my head) had underground waterfalls and a lot more items/puzzles but sadly I just didn't get to implement them.

I am considering starting a new project later this year, I might either do something really simple or just target the M128 from the start. I wanted to release a game which would run on an unexpanded BBC Micro, and now I've scratched that particular itch!
