Post subject:  PC Repton file formats?

Hello all,

Like, I guess, many of you, I've been a fan of Repton ever since getting Repton 2 and playing it over all of the subsequent Xmas break - although I never managed to complete it due to the notorious one-diamond-too-few problem. Now many years later I'm looking after KRepton (http://www.keelhaul.me.uk/krepton) for KDE, and have just been inspired to add an importer for BBC format files so that it can now play all of the free levels that have been so thoughtfully collected by AW.

There's also PC Repton from Superior, with lots of extra levels, and also other free levels available (e.g. at http://www.chessbase.com/puzzle/christm ... r03-8a.htm). My question is, is there any information available on the format of these level files (which mostly seem to have a .rep or .rmd extension)? I've briefly looked at them with a hex editor and can find nothing obvious - some of the files seem to be much smaller than the standard BBC-format files and so there may be some compression involved.

I'd love to be able to write a converter for these, so that KRepton and/or BBC Repton could play these levels. I suppose the ultimate source would be Superior, but they may not want to release the information for commercial reasons. If anyone here has any information, or is working on a converter or importer, then of course I'd be happy to share information and ideas.

Welcome! I note you asked this on STH which is the right place, because here we're talking about a new Repton game I wrote for the Beeb only!

Apologies for the multiple posts, but I'd been recommended to try this site first as a place to find potential Repton experts or programmers. Have now obtained some useful information from STH.

I'm still interested in the progress of the Lost Realms, and would even buy it (if it were for sale) in order to play the new levels! Hence my interest in file formats...

Regards, Jonathan
