I think 25meg is a good limit, That gives about 8mins or so (I think) of video at my settings. I think if it's too big it'll allow me to be lazy and not think about splitting into smaller logical parts.

Thanks for all your work on this Peter. Hope I've not come across arsy, I'm not - honest !

I tried to upload a video file of around 24megs but it failed. Has the larger upload been allowed yet ?

Nope, not yet.

I did bug Dave again about it a while back but he has been offline at home until recently, so he's probably just not got round to catching up yet.

Whilst we're still waiting on the server configuration fairies, have you seen this:

CybernetNews: Watch High-Resolution YouTube Videos written by Ryan

If you have some time, you might want to try uploading one of your videos again to YouTube and then play it back a day later with the extra parameter &fmt=6. You may be able to get it working at a more acceptable quality rate.

The main problem seems to be the fact that there's no way to force YouTube to generate a higher resolution version.

Might be worth experimenting with, anyway, if you're bored.

Hurrah.

This little issue is finally nailed.

Files up to at least 25 MB can now be uploaded to the site.

@Steve - I've uploaded all your SWIFT tutorials except #8 without trouble. Do you want to re-upload that last one, so you can confirm everything works for you too?

Note also that I've pre-fixed the filenames with swift (so there's no namespace clash, in case anyone else wants to make video tutorials).

Thanks for all that Peter, having problems here uploading (my problem not the sites). Will try later. I thought all was working ok anyway. Were the files I uploaded not getting up there ?

I will try that You Tube thing today as well

PostScript : Actually it might not be my issue, Firefox reports instantly I try to upload that the server has been reset ? Could still be me as I've currently got an issue with my wireless. I will try again later when I've sorted my wireless, I know what my problem is but in bed at moment and can't be bothered to go and sort it !

I've sorted my issues, still get connection rest message from Firefox and a similar thing with Explorer.

I should point out this message occurs instantly I press the upload button, there's no attempt to upload the actual file.

I've tried with two separate operating systems, I'm nowhere near the server, and it works reliably with Firefox (haven't tried IE) so I'm confident the problem must be around your end, Steve. What should happen is that Firefox will put a sending HTTP request message in the bottom left corner, the tab & mouse cursor will show the page loading symbol symbol and a not-terribly-accurate progress bar will be in the bottom right corner of the browser. After waiting an age (they're big files), the page will update and the file will have been uploaded.

Have you tried disabling personal firewall/anti-virus? It's possible they are shutting down such a large HTTP connection because they mistake it for malware ...

Could also try a wired connection, tho I can't imagine why that should make a difference.

Hmmmm.... rather embarrasingly I was trying to upload the raw AVI which was quite a few megabytes in size, now using the zip file it seems to be going ok. :oops: :oops: :oops: I think I'll go and find a rock to skulk under for a while.

lol. Yeah, from memory I don't think AVIs are allowed - to encourage people to zip things, or it might have been balking at the > 30 MB size. Hard to say without investigating.

When it's uploaded, update the link on the SWIFT wiki page and try downloading it again. If the resulting file plays as you'd expect, let us know here ...

Real Life got in the way, just tested it. Worked fine on my XP machine, but just a a black screen on my Vista Service Pack 1 laptop. Don't think it uses any odd codecs that I'm aware of. Can anyone else test on Vista or other OS's.

It works fine in Real Player on Vista, so something up with the windows media player. Not sure if it was working before as I've never tested on it.

Microsoft removed some of the video codecs from later versions of Windows XP onwards that were supplied as standard in the original version of Windows XP.

This might have been your problem.

That sounds like a very probable reason (Thanks :)). Can't face doing the tutorials all again yet, will probably investigate the problem and find out what people need and just advise what they need to do. Although luckily it runs in Real Player :)

I only found that out after some of my own video work refused to play on a newly installed Windows XP machine with Service Pack 2, although it worked okay on a newly installed Windows XP machine with no Service Packs.

A right pain in the behind if you ask me, but that's M$ for you.

Plays fine with Totem under Linux. :)

Also had confirmation that the server should have no difficulties accepting archives up to 30 MB now.
