Any thoughts on what this should contain before we go 'live'?

I certainly think we need to include a link/heading for 'Development Tools' (which would take you to a page of links to the likes of Swift, BeebASM etc).

And I realise it might be quite some time before any games get finished, but I figure we might as well add a heading for 'Completed Projects' now?!

So my initial suggestion for the layout of the Header Bar is:

Home-News-In Development-Completed Projects-Development Tools-Sample Code-Forum-FAQ-Help-Contact

... though that's probably a bit too long. Might need to further abbreviate some of the headings, maybe combine the FAQ & Help sections?!

You could perhaps have it as a two tier header.

Kind regards,

Francis.

Thinking about it further you could, if possible, have drop down boxes for some of the headings.

As an example if you moved the mouse pointer over the 'Projects' heading you could have the categories of 'In Development' and 'Completed' appear in the drop down box.

Kind regards.

Francis.

Well, we could have a separate page for Development Tools or, alternatively, we could add them to the Projects In Development page, which could be split into two sections - one for 8-bit projects, the other for PC tools. After all, we're not going to have a huge number to start ... I don't mind either way.

Hmm ... not a big fan of the two tier header - I don't think that'd look too great. By the by really, though, as both that and having drop down menus would be a significant problem because that area is heavily tied into the MediaWiki engine. I don't fancy forking the main engine, unless there's absolutely no other choice. I can tweak the theme, but that's getting out of the realm of theme modification because the menu itself is auto-generated by the wiki engine.

Dave's example is almost certainly too long, but if we get a consensus on what we'd like up there, I'll experiment and see how close we can get.

Sam.

Naah - I'm not mad on two-tier menus either! ;)

I'm sure we'll be able to narrow the names of the headings down, once we've reached an agreement on what needs to be up there ...

Btw, FWIW I definitely think the Games and Developer Tools should be in separate sections!

If everyone else is happy with that, I'll add it but it will involve some abbreviating to fit it on the line. Modifying the font size and stuff is fiddly but possible. However, I think reducing the size would make it much harder to read so I'd like to avoid that, if possible.

I'll give it a few days to see if any other feedback is forthcoming, and then I'll see what can be done over the weekend.

Could we get away with just "Completed" or is that starting to lose sense of what that menu is referring too ? Perhaps

Well, there's been an update. It should include all the pages requested.

If anyone has any comments about anything missing or better wording, post it here.

Sam.
