The Search for the Lost Football can now use shadow screens to allow other modes to be used instead of just mode 7. Here is a picture of the game running in mode 128:

Hi Sam,

Yes, it's still progressing. :)

I've got about 6 projects on the go at the moment (this one, Image2BBC, another BBC Micro related one and three that are non-BBC related) and I'm going between them at the moment.

Kind regards,

Francis

Of course, no pressure intended. I just noticed that your last diary entry was eighteen months ago, so I thought Lost Football might have been a victim of your hard drive crash.

Good to know it's still on the burner, somewhere. :)

Sam.

Yeah, I was thinking about that last night. I'll need to get it updated.

Most of my BeebEm files are actually kept on a memory stick so they were not affected by the hard drive crash.

Kind regards,

Francis

New developmental version available from the wiki page. Be sure to try it on a BBC Master if you want to take the hi-res version for a spin. ;)

Kind regards,

Francis

Hey, Francis.

Tried out the latest version. Now I was able to bust in the locked door at the start!

Again, I know not much has changed ... but here are a few random thoughts. Some repeated from last time.

  • I'm still not keen on the Visible Exits line, especially as your prose is good and the new MODE 0 view looks very professional. It's the only bit that feels a bit tacky left. But that's probably a personal thing.
  • seems slightly wrong that your very first act is basically breaking and entering
  • can't use GET ALL yet. I assume that will come.
  • still can't do anything with the breeze halfway up the stairs. I assume that will come.
  • can't GET TIN only GET CLEANER. Needs a synonym.
  • "in the upstairs landing" should be "on the upstairs landing"

But overall I love the MODE 0 view ... looks cool!

Sam.

Thanks for the feedback Sam. I've actually just been going through all the previous feedback.

I could probably add a switch to turn off the visible exits in the same way as you can turn the colour off.

Yes, I'm well aware that the first thing you do is break in to the house which is a bit questionable. I was giving that one a bit of thought today to try and find some way into the house that is a bit more "legal".

GET ALL will come. ;)

You can't do anything with the breeze, but it's there as a clue to something.

Yes, I'm not too happy about the CLEANER bit either. I'll need to work on that. Still better than having to type in GET BATHROOM CLEANER though. ;)

All the descriptions will need to be rewritten so I wasn't too worried about grammar mistakes, but thanks for pointing it out.

Glad you're liking the mode 0 look. :D

Kind regards,

Francis

That would require you to fit the exits into the room descriptions though - would that not use up quite a bit of memory to do both? Still, would be great if you could.

What you could do is have alternative ways of solving problems - so getting in this way gets you say five points but working out that the brick is a false brick which actually contains a key gets you ten points. The idea being that there's always an alternative to the morally questionable choices - they're just harder to figure out. :)

Just a suggestion, anyway. Always good to see an update!

Sam.
