It's not a virus, it just means that some of the code has kicked of on some of the anti virus heuristics, which is surprisingly easy to do!

I once had 10 lines of C++ code, which didn't even interact with any files, which kicked off the heuristics on Avast.

bEm22 also did this on my AVG virus checker....

to sort, just go into the virus program config and tell it to ignore scanning that folder ;)

Well - that's good to know - thanks for the info.

I wonder if it could be recompiled though?

It gets automatically quarantined and deleted at work, which is beyond my control...

It's actually somewhat of a pain to try and work out exactly which part of the code is generating the signature that looks like a virus and then try and change it enough to make it look different enough that it won't set off the alarm, and yet not change the actual behaviour of the program - especially when you work out how many different virus scanning engines there are.

Is it just downloading / emailing the executable that's causing it to be scanned PJ? If so, try downloading it at home and then zipping it up and putting a password on the zip file. Many email scanners etc. will then skip trying to virus scan the contents.

Of course, if the problem is your on-access virus scanner then there's not really a lot more you can do (run it in a VM? report it to your work's IT dept as a false positive?).

Yeah, it's a pain I know. I can assure you that it isn't a virus and it is a false positive on the part of the virus checker.

I don't know if it's the way my programming tools compile the executable or if it's something in the way I program, but I have had this issue with some of the other programs I've written (although not all).

Kind regards,

Francis

I have managed to get a chance today to experiment as to why my programs are being flagged as malware by various anti-virus programs. It seems that it is due to how I am handling the memory the programs use to store graphics, etc. I have tweaked these so they now pass as being clean.

I use Emsisoft and BitDefender myself which have been flagging my stuff as malware for a while, but I have never been able to get to the bottom of it until now.

Kind regards,

Francis
