I just had another bash with the image converter and two features occurred to me, which might be cool.

1) Output to SSD (as opposed to beeb .inf format) with a !BOOT file to auto-load the pic in the correct MODE, then call an emulator with it on the command line. Be able to specify the command line in the options in the form:

c:\program files\beebem\beebem.exe %image.ssd%

This is because I noticed that one of my pics appeared to look significantly different to the zoom preview view within the image converter, so it would be nice to see it in an emulator.

2) This one might be way too hard to implement, but it would be useful to be able to draw a rectangle over a section of the BBC preview image on the right, and then only apply changes within that section. This would allow you to change the brightness of specific sections rather than applying everything globally across the whole picture.

Anyway, just some thoughts ... !

Output straight to SSD is already a planned feature. I can already load images straight from an SSD image into the image converter, so I just need to complete the saving to SSD files. I'll have a look at being able to call the emulator.

What do you mean by "significantly different"? There shouldn't be any major difference between the zoomed preview and the emulator output. Could you post a screenshot as an example?

Request 2 is outside the scope of my current plans for my image converter, but we'll see what happens.

Good to hear output to an emulator may be on the cards - I think it'll come in handy.

It's very hard to reproduce what I did to create my first cut - mainly because I would open up the brightness and contrast settings, change them and close the dialog, then go back in to tweak them again. When you go back in, the scale resets - so it's not like I can say I was on 40% brightness or whatever - I did a lot of going in and out ... !

Anyway, this is what it looked like in the preview:



and this, if I haven't muddled up the disc images, is what it looked like when I loaded it into BeebEm:



It might also help if the preview window was a bit larger?

How did I miss that?

Attached is a third go, which looks much closer to what was intended, under BeebEm. I guess I must have screwed up the colours somewhere along the line, tho how I managed it without it being obvious, I dunno ...



The full screen view is a bit too big for me - I'd like to be able to see the effects of what I'm changing without it taking over the window completely. TBH, it doesn't help that I'm doing everything in a virtual server either ...

I couldn't understand why you would get significantly different images between the image converter and the emulator, but I'm glad that has been cleared up.

The current version I'm working on can actually correct the palette to use the default colour order when necessary so these problems don't happen. The dithering routines are also more intelligent as well so should give a better quality of image.
