Going through the past discussions I've had with people regarding the various incarnations of this software people seem to have a preference for the name Image2BBC. So I am putting it to you, what do we call it? Kind regards, Francis |

I like the Image2BBC name as it tells you exactly what the program does in one word. |

The problem with Image2BBC is that it implies the conversion is only one way. However, I can see why BBC Micro Image Converter is a bit vague - it could, for example, refer to a BBC micro only program which converts images between different MODEs. I selected the third option, because I wonder if it might be an idea to change the name to something which covers conversion both ways, between PC formats and the beeb. Something like BeebPIC (BBC Micro <-> PC Image Converter), perhaps? Sam. |

That was my reasoning for going with BBC Micro Image Converter, but I think people found that title a little long winded. BeebPIC is a little confusing too as I immediately think of PIC programming software for the Beeb. Kind regards, Francis |

Well, it was just a first stab at an alternative ... but I can't say I've ever heard of PIC programming on the Beeb! Sam. |

I haven't heard of any PIC programming software either for the BBC, but when I hear the initials PIC I just instantly think of programmable ICs. To be honest though, BeebPIC is still better than some of the alternatives I've thought of. Kind regards, Francis |

Here's some of the alternatives that I was toying with: - BeebShop (from Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro) - Beeb Image Converter - The BIMP: Beeb Image Manipulation Program (from the GIMP) - Retro Image Converter (leaves it open for me to add in other retro formats) - Acorn Image Converter - BeebICon (from Beeb Image Converter) Kind regards, Francis |

RetroShop, I like it! Again there could be confusion for people thinking that it is a shop for buying retro items. Kind regards, Francis. |

But then again, people could think BBC Image Convertor is for turning Russell Brand into Andrew Sachs... |

My 2p's worth: I reckon that a good name would imply that it's for: - converting between PC and BBC Micro formats, - that it goes both ways - and that it is an image transformer or transcoder, converter etc. To my mind, only the last one I suggested does all that and whilst I'm not sold on it, I can't think of anything better to match all the criteria above. :/ Sam. |

Well, I'm gonna stick with BeebPIC until I hear something better, then. Although, you could write it as BeebPic, if the PIC thing bothers you (tho that does take away from the fact that the PIC bit is meant to represent initials). Sam. |

Personally I don't like the BeebPic name one bit ... Image2BBC still by far and away my favourite (that's probably why it's achieved an INCREDIBLE, ASTONISHING FIFTY PERCENT of the votes so far! But seriously, even though the name implies one way conversion, I suspect the majority of its users will be converting PC Images so therefore, I think Image2BBC is a suitable name. |
