For those that don't keep an eye on the development diary, I've now got BBC Micro Image Converter working under Linux. :)

I'm also hoping to be looking at getting it to work on MacOS over the next few days.

Kind regards,

Francis.

Excellent news!

If you can get me a usable Linux build before about Weds/Thursday night (my broadband at home is down atm, which is making preparation much harder), I'll happily get it installed and show it off at this weekend's Retro Fusion event, if you like the sound of that? Obviously, if it's not in a state where you can easily drop a pre-release version, then don't worry about it - 'twas just an idea, as I think your tool would probably have the most visual impact on attendees. :)

Also, how do you plan on distributing it - a binary-only release in a zip, or as a src bundle? I assume the former, which means I'm wondering whether my 64-bit operating system (Debian Testing) would have any problems if it was a 32-bit binary? Can only test and see!

Great news, tho. I have to admit to having been quite envious of the lucky Windows users, ever since I moved over to Linux, full-time. :)

When I say that it is working under Linux I am referring to the core components as there is no GUI yet for it (not even for the Windows version). At the moment all of the options are being changed by hand in a test version of the code. Once all of these components are in a state which I consider ready I will then get the GUI done to tie everything together properly.

In short, I would not be able to get anything ready for you as a demonstration.

The package itself will likely be distributed as a zipped binary.

Kind regards,

Francis.

Ahh, I thought I might be being a little premature. I'll try and show off the last Windows version using WINE, tho as I've mentioned before it's a tad unstable - doesn't work with GIFs etc. If someone else brings a Windows laptop, I'll let them demo it as it'll work better ...

Here's hoping the 32-bit binary works out of the box ... :)

Hi Samwise,

Thinking about it further I may be able to do some standalone programs of fixed routines (e.g. the teletext converter) where you just pick a file and it will do the conversion, but without any other options available.

Loading of GIFs hasn't been done yet for Linux. Only PNG, BMP, TIFF and JPEG formats are currently supported.

I'm also curious to see if it will run okay on a 64-bit Linux installation.

Kind regards,

Francis.

Well, definitely don't go out of your way - unlike Dave, I feel no need to crack any whips. :)

I mean, running your current released version under Windows will generate plenty of interest as it is. I got a bit carried away when you mentioned Linux support and thought you were further on than you perhaps are.

Yep, can't wait to join in the testing. I should be able to help flush out any 64-bit issues ... :)
