I've got Beacon sitting on my hard drive at home. It just needs a couple of finishing touches. I'll see about getting it released within the next week or two.

I don't think I got the Reet Petite disk.

Kind regards,

Francis.

good man Francis :D

how does it work roughly? ie. all done on PC like your image2bbc proggy?

so can i take a .wav or .mp3 and convert it to a .dsd disc, and
use a 'decoder' proggy you have written to play it??

will look out that Reet Petite disc over w/end, and TRY  to upload, failing that maybe SteveO or DaveM could sort you out before that.

Cheers, CM ;)

I can send the disk to Francis if required. Least i think so, I'm not on the same laptop as I was so might be on back up DVD somewhere.

Beacon is a Windows program that takes a WAV file and then converts it into a format suitable for the BBC to playback using a player program.

Kind regards,

Francis.

My main PC programming workstation at home has been intermittently crashing with hardware faults over the last month or so making development quite annoying at best and it has been gradually getting worse. Last night I ended up taking the thing apart to try and find out why and give it a clean as well (it's amazing the amount of dust that collects inside). I've still to put it all back together.

I was hoping to have Beacon released a few weeks ago, but unfortunately it has been delayed because of my computer problems. :(

Kind regards,

Francis.

maybe put on WinXP SP3, it was released yesterday, it takes about an
hour to install. My work & home PCs are still ok :o

I've managed to get the PC back up and running, although I've still got all the software to re-install. I'm not exactly sure what the problem was, but I found a partially disconnected drive cable and a problem in the BIOS settings (which presumably occurred after I had updated the BIOS).

I've left the PC soak testing just now to ensure that everything is okay.

Kind regards,

Francis.

I've found out what the problem was with my PC. The onboard network interface controller was failing and has now completely failed. I now have no network access from this PC. :(

In retrospect this makes perfect sense with when I was experiencing BSODs as it was usually during the downloading of my e-mails or network access which I had initially attributed to a dodgy hard drive, but testing the hard drives of my computer consistently revealed no problems.

I'm waiting on someone giving me a loan of a network card to get me back up and running until I can get a new motherboard.

Kind regards,

Francis.

My PC is back up and running. Turned out that I had a 3 year warranty on the motherboard so it was replaced under warranty. :)

I'm concentrating my efforts mainly on my Image Converter at the moment. I am also working on a couple of "secret" BBC programming projects plus I've been brushing up on my 6502 assembly skills.

I've also been on holiday for the past couple of weeks so I have actually done very little in the way of programming.

Kind regards,

Francis.
