I've been posting here (and in stardot) for a while. I'm another Dave who was an old Elk then Arc user.

I'm happy to help where ever - though I have negative artistic ability (I make artistic people around me lose theirs) and I can't do sound.

What I can do is code; though it's been 20 years since I wrote any 6502 and 15 years since I programmed properly in BBC BASIC. I can probably help on the external tools and the transfer of data 'twixt stuff side.

I'm also quite good at reverse engineering (see the Repton Infinity thread on stardot), so if we need any, I'm your Dave. I can also do web design, though I'm not a guru.

In terms of code stuff done recently, I mainly work on reimplementing old 8-bit text adventure engines on modern hardware, or redrawing the graphics from the original games (ascape and grackle - readers of adventurescape and GAC; also the game graphics at http://aimemorial.if-legends.org/).

By day I do computer security, which isn't really relevant to the BBC hardware :-)

Hi, Dave.

If I haven't said it already, welcome to the team. :)

Great introductory post - just the sort of thing which will help ppl know what they can tap you for! I know you're already doing some sterling work helping out with Paul A's revision of AdventureScape.

Generally, most people here just start their own projects and post back about progress as and when it's made. As you're already doing, if you see anything you think you can help with, just dive in and offer wherever you can. Every now and then ppl drop out test builds of stuff but don't always get feedback - if you get the chance to play any of those and drop in your thoughts, every little helps. That suggestion, of course, goes for anyone!

Ignoring the production side, the one thing we are really missing here is more gfx skills - Dave J has been overloaded with requests for help, for well over a year now. We may have to try asking out in other communities again for that.

There's also nothing wrong with having a security expert looking over our little communities - that's already proven helpful so far. ;)

Sam.

Hey, I'm pretty sharp at pixel art. Nothing loading-screen size, but game sprites I reckon I can handle :)
So who needs help with what?

And welcome Taut (just how many Daves is that around here now!?!)

Ooh, really?

Can I suggest you start by dropping Dave J a line? Dave probably has the best idea of exactly what projects are most in need of a bit of a graphical sparkle, as he's usually everyone's first port of call. I think both Tom and Rich have projects they've asked Dave about and then, of course, there's JoolsH's recent BBC Micro Muscle March homage which might benefit from some additional sprites nicked from the WiiWare original too.

Seriously, I think we can keep you busy. :)

Sam.

One over thing; I physically live about 4 miles from Dave M, so if there's any physical work needed (such as lugging boxes of tapes around) I can possibly help.

If it helps avoid ambiguity, you can refer to me as a "dave", rather than a "Dave" (a strange affectation I've been using since at least 1994 - I don't know why, I suppose it seemed right at the time and stuck).

We're getting close to the full alphabet here: E, F, J, L (me), M.

The legion of Dave's will soon be complete :-)

I think you've a way to go. You need 54 (for all the cards in the pack, plus the jokers) and we'll need to see a graph of your mpd (miles-per-dave) to ensure it fits into the golden cone of 300-500 mpg. Bonus points for a Gorman. :)

It's like the Monty Python sketch but Dave instead of Roger, oh the fun we have a shows when we randomly shout out "Dave" and virtually everyone turns round !

Oh and Welcome :)
