I've got a working 5.25" disk drive, although it's in bits at the moment after me cannabilising a dual 5.25" disk drive to create a 5.25"/3.5" drive.

If you don't get any other offers I can put it together and you can have it.

Kind regards,

Francis

If anyone's interested, I got this one: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... K:MEWNX:IT

(The bidding ones were going for quite a bit more than that, so I got a buy it now)

@Francis: I'll get back to you about that if nothing else comes along. I'm going away next Sunday for 2 weeks.

Found a scanned copy of the Master manual. I didn't realise it had a word processor in ROM! I'll have to buy a Centronics-compatible dot matrix printer now so I can use it (I like printers ;p). Then maybe I could find or build a cable for my CPC464 (I haven't been able to find a cable or a native printer anywhere, which is rather odd. All I've heard is that if you find a centronics plug (the printer end), an IDE cable and a 5.25" PC floppy drive cable you can build one), and I'll have printers for all of my old computers :) (I already have an Alphacom 32 for the ZX81/Spectrum and a Commodore MPS-801 for my Commodores. An RS232 printer for my Spectrum +2 would be nice too, though not on the top of my list).

EDIT: Actually, I've found you can order all the parts for a CPC printer cable from Maplins. I'll do all this after I've got my Master sorted of course.

If you're after a dot matrix printer, go check out the posts made by "greybeard" on the stairwaytohell forum ... I believe he's got (or did have) a load of them for sale, and seeing as he's a knowledgeable chap, he should be able to advise which ones worked well with Beebs ...

It's quite low priority, but thanks for the pointer. I need to get ahold of a disk drive first. Oh, and I've just remembered, my tape recorder is broken (well, sort of, it would work fine for human-hearable things but it produces a weird blip on the output every 1/2 second, it's hard to explain. And the mains socket is pretty much dead). I'll have to find a new one of those too - but eBay has a plentiful supply so you needn't worry, and I've got plenty of tape players (as well as a big chunky tape recorder, but I've nowhere to put that in my room, but if I needed to record a tape from a laptop I will use that - which is what I'll have to use at first for recording JSM onto cassette)

It's possible to do away with the tape player altogether and just connect the cable directly from the beeb to the laptop line out/headphone socket. Then just play the WAV file on the laptop. It works great, and it's more reliable than using tapes!

Ooh, that's a good idea. I'd still like to be able to use commercial tapes though, but for my own programs that would work well.

Oh yesss (as the Churchill dog would say !) It has nice goodies built in. You've probably discovered these now but in addition to View (word pro), it has a spreadsheet, Terminal emulator and a code editor. Just wait and it won't be long before your seduced by all the extra RAM it has all over the place... you'll be coding enhanced Master versions of your games soon :)

One to look at that shoved loads more graphics into the master version was the Master version of the game "Strykers Run".
