I have say the new Repton game is awesome, and it actually inspired me to join.

But it got me thinking back to when Superior Software where bringing out these different variations of the same game, re-using the Repton 3 engine. I always thought ok, well obviously beebs reached it's peak with whats possible for a Repton game in this format.

Why dont they USE the character and put him in many different genre's?

As soon as I saw Strykers Run I thought, -that should be Repton.

My idea would be a cross between Strykers Run and Flashback

I imagine Repton landing his ship on the left, holding a steampunk lasergun shooting hoop lasers ie. http://socksmakepeoplesexy.net/images/r ... odius2.png

His mission: To rescue as many imprisoned fellow reptonians along the way, whilst solving obstacle puzzles and battling the enslavers (yet unnamed) in a horizonal shoot out. Where he would eventually reach 'the oppressor' and release all of the egg hatching lizards(in the all repton games), who were also in the diamond mines again'st their will. FREEEEDOOOM! :D

MAIN STORY
------------

After escaping the planet where he was imprisoned to serve as a diamond mine slave forever, Repton returns! This time to free his fellow reptonians from slavery.

How did he escape? When Repton 'went thru time' this caused a displacement in the 'mind control' technology which was keeping the mine slave happy. During this time he became self aware and now conscious, trying to look as if he was carrying on as normal.

As a result he one day uses the diamonds to disrupt the teleporting machines to relocate onto the planet surface, where her escaped.

As the 'galactic council' needed proof of the mines before sending in the troops, Repton was on his own to Rescue as many Reptonians as possible along his mission, before the enslavers got wind of this and executed all of the last surviving members of his race.

#Disclaimer: I have no idea of the release order of the previous games, or if this even makes sense in the timeline. But I can rework it to fit i'm sure#

Superior did use Repton in one different game - EGO: Repton 4 for the Archimedes. I thought it was a very interesting game, and really enjoyed playing it. I'd certainly be interested in a PC version.

As I recall, I think Ego: Repton 4 wasn't originally intended to be a Repton game, it was just re-branded late in the game ... which is why it plays so differently to the rest of the series.

I'm not so sure I'm sold in using the Repton character in non-Repton games. The Repton series is as popular and long-running as it is because it has carved out a niche in a specific category of puzzle games. I think to put Repton into an arcade game now would be somewhat apocryphal and risks diluting the appeal. The opportunity to turn Repton into a multi-functional Dizzy-like character is probably gone, IMO.

I think expanding Commander Stryker's repetoire might be less controversial. That all said, these characters are all claimed by Superior Software, so any future use of them or their likenesses would have to be approved by them.

Another option is to consider creating our own series based around a character - but, as with all such things, it's really down to whether anyone wants to work on such titles. Tom's back-story on Hard Hat Harry lends itself to our first home-grown personalised title and is well worth reading, if you haven't already!

Absolutely, it baffles me why people don't want to create new characters!

Yes, it was originally supposed to feature an elephant called EGO that was going to feature in mooted Amiga and ST versions.

However it's a great puzzle game and therefore it doesn't feel odd that it includes Repton - it seems like the sort of thing that Repton would get up to if he ever became claustrophobic.

I think Rich T-W's Blurp has the potential to feature in a wide range of different games. I think it's a great little character.
