Hi guys,

Just came back from the annual Risc OS club in Wakefield with renewed interest in the Beeb. I met the website owner :)

I love SHMUPS ie. ZAP! and have lots of ideas for such a thing like Arcadians 2.

One of the best versions of Galaxian I ever played was Galaxian Turbo. It really added pace and excitement to game.

If it was me, the first thing I would do is speed it up. Giving it the pace of Alien Drop Out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-kdKw4q2YQY

You could also change to Mode 1 every 10/20 levels into 'Armada mode' which, instead of having a 32K hogging boss. Just have lots more smaller aliens on the screen. Almost like zooming out to fit more on the screen.

Obviously there's the colour limit of 4 in mode 1 being Yellow, Red, Black and White. But the way to introduce Armada mode more subtley would be to have the aliens in those colours a couple of levels beforehand.

I've suddenly got tons of ideas spilling out of my head..sorry.

This is my very first thread so, nice to meet you all. Anyone need game ideas or concepts ask me i'll try and help :)

Welcome to RS :D

A good idea for a game is often a tougher call than the actual programming so you never know, your imaginative talents might well be called upon ;)

That's it, the hardest part is trying not to let your imagination run away with what's possible with just 32K, that said there are some very simple yet addicitve game ideas out there :)

New Boss idea

This idea came to me today(sorry if already mentioned) it's occured to me also that this idea has been done before in other remakes, but this would work with beebs 32K memory restriction.

Obviously large boss sprites are out of the question as they take up too much memory, but if you made a big boss out of the little Galaxians, then you have a boss!

So long as you could have the Core* drag the rest of the Galaxians around in this configuration, using the normal flip over /dive down animation.

Imagine each Black block as a single blue Galaxian, and the 'R's which are his eyes Red Galaxians.

To get around the flip over animation requiring a different amount of galaxians for some frames, some enemies would be hidden behind others. So some enemies it would look like you need to shoot twice. But this could add to the fun imo.

As you progress through the levels you could work your way upto large Yellow/Blue Galaxians, then the Red ones, and finally the Blue/Red/Yellow ones at the very top of the screen.
