It's the ethernet card which the beeb would require to match this feat.

I trust you've seen Winston's introductory post on STH?

There's plenty of scope for the Retro Software titles currently in development to make use of networking, even if it is restricted to Econet. (BeebEm has networking code to support Econet over IP, I believe - tho I don't know how well tested it is in the real world).

Slightly off-topic but I remember doing something multiplayer in RM Nimbus BBC Basic by saving a file onto a network location while another instance of the program was polling to see if that file existed before taking control of its bit... no good for arcade games, of course, but great for adventures, battleships, etc.
