| Post subject: | Retro Software launch: Jungle Journey for Atom |
We're going to start taking Kees for granted soon. David Boddie's original Electron game Jungle Journey which arrived last year, was a delightful oddity that seemingly everyone enjoyed blundering around in. David used our Mercurial distributed version control repository to host his code all through development, which was like a red rag to a bull - Kees, in this case. Almost inevitably, Kees had the code downloaded and began evaluating its porting potential soon after the original Electron release. It quickly became apparent that the graphic sprites and tiles conversion was going to be the most painful job. However, last year's In Da 80s event proved to be an excellent opportunity for Kees to meet David in person. It wasn't long before an accord was struck, and impressed with the idea of an Atom port of his game, David offered to lend a hand with the graphics conversion. Which means all you lucky folk with a standard Atom expanded to 32 KB RAM (or an emulator!), can now try to escape the Jungle one more time! More detail, screenshots, videos and all the image downloads are available here: http://www.retrosoftware.co.uk/junglejourney#Atom Yet again, source code for both the original Electron game and Kees' new Atom port is available for download under the GPL licence. Please feedback on the game and this Atom port for Kees and David in the Jungle Journey forum. Feedback from the community is always a big encouragement to our hobbyist developers to stick it through to the end of their projects. All hail to these coding phenoms! Sam. |
