Hello, RS followers!

Welcome to the new year! As a special treat, we're proud to present two new freely downloadable BBC micro/Electron compatible games. Yes, two!

First up is Tom Walker's Hard Hat Harry, An 8-bit platform game specifically designed to be started and finished in a month. The design is purposely modest in scope and is intended to resemble a 1983 release. As Hard Hat Harry, you must collect all the workmens' stolen mugs of tea from the animals which have taken over the building site of RS Tower. More detail, screenshots and the download here:

Following on from that, today sees the launch of Hyper Viper by Kenton Price. This is a challenging and previously unreleased port of the classic snake game probably written in 1986 in-between Ripton and Starquake. For its official release, Paul Davis has tweaked the sound to work on the Electron, added a high score table and reduced the chance of a random re-spawning rock killing you instantly without warning. More detail, screenshots and the download (including complete source code) here:

We hope you'll check out both Hard Hat Harry and Hyper Viper and consider leaving some feedback in their respective forums, which is always an encouragement to our hobbyist developers to stick it through to the end of their projects.

Keep an eye on this site for further titles in the future ...

Many thanks,

Sam.

P.S. The Retro Software community welcomes volunteers who'd like to get their hands on early releases to do some beta playtesting ... plus, as well as needing graphic artists, musicians etc. if anyone out there is of the art persuasion, we have plenty of cover-art and poster work to do as more of the projects get closer to completion. If you're interested, post your interest in the Volunteer Team forum and join in!

Hyper Viper 1.1 has been released, including a fix for a compatibility issue with the Electron Plus 1 by Paul D and new joystick support from Pitfall Jones.

Do upgrade to the latest release and continue posting your high scores to the Hyper Viper forum.

Thanks a lot, Paul and PJ, as well as, of course, Kenton for writing it in the first place!

Sam.
